Wood You Believe It? My First Wooden Watch

Ever since I started shopping online, it’s been a constant struggle not to buy a new watch every day. If you’re into watches like I am, you’ll know the temptation is real. I especially have a soft spot for the unusual, the quirky, and the downright gimmicky pieces—the kind of watches that make people do a double take.

So when I stumbled across a wooden watch for the first time, I knew I had to have one in the collection. There’s just something cool and unexpected about a timepiece made entirely of wood.

Locally, these kinds of watches can get a bit pricey. But thanks to the wonderful rabbit hole that is online shopping, the options open up. I ended up finding mine on the Chinese site Wish.com, where the selection is… let’s just say generous.

The watch eventually arrived, tucked inside a brown envelope with some bubble wrap. Definitely not luxury packaging, but it got the job done. The watch itself has a mid-sized 38mm case and is fully wooden—the case, the dial, the strap, and even the case back. It’s from a brand called Uwood, and the model I picked says it’s made from bamboo wood.

As you'd expect, it’s incredibly light—so much so that sometimes I forget I’m even wearing it. I haven’t opened it up to check, but I suspect it’s running a very basic, cheap movement inside. Still, that’s not really the point with this one.

What it lacks in precision, it makes up for in character.

Every time I wear it, someone asks me about it. “Is that real wood?” “Where did you get that?” It’s definitely an attention grabber, and it sparks conversations in a way my more traditional watches don’t.

It might not be the most valuable watch I own, but it’s one of the most fun—and that’s a big part of why I love collecting in the first place.
