Where I Find Great Watches Without Paying Retail

As most of you probably know, good watches don’t come cheap—especially if you're after quality craftsmanship or a recognizable brand. But if you're like me, you don’t always want to pay full retail. So, how do you find a great watch without breaking the bank?

I’m going to share a few of my go-to platforms for buying (and sometimes selling) watches—especially for those of us based in South Africa.

1. Chrono24

This is my first stop. Chrono24 is an international marketplace that connects watch enthusiasts and sellers from around the world. Whether you're looking for a luxury Swiss piece or something more niche, chances are you’ll find it here.

You’ll need to create a free account, set your preferences, and you're ready to browse. The site includes filters for brand, model, price, condition, and more. Just remember to factor in customs and import duties if you're buying from outside South Africa.

2. Facebook Marketplace

Yes, it’s a bit of a gamble, but Facebook Marketplace can be a goldmine—especially for finding local deals. Set your search radius and keep an eye out for trusted sellers. That said, be cautious:

  • Always meet in a public place—a shopping mall or even better, a police station.
  • Never pay in advance, not even to "hold" the item. I've seen too many people lose money this way.

With a little patience and smart safety habits, Marketplace can yield some real gems.

3. Yaga

This is a local app that’s growing fast in South Africa. Yaga offers buyer and seller protection, which gives you a bit more peace of mind. I’ve personally found some great watch deals on Yaga, and I’ve also sold a few of my own pieces there.

It’s easy to use, and because it’s South African-focused, you won’t need to worry about international shipping fees or customs delays.

Final Thoughts

Those are my top three platforms for watch hunting without paying full price. Each has its pros and cons, but they’ve worked well for me over the years.

Now it’s your turn—where do you go to find watch deals? Drop a comment or DM me. I'm always looking for new spots to check out.
